Emily Thomas

In the Melting Pot

In her solo exhibition In the Melting Pot, Emily Thomas consolidates her research of creative factories & urban developments in post-industrial neighbourhoods within Barcelona, including El Poblenou, Sant Andreu, Sant Just Desvern & Cal Rosal (Berga). Through a process of abstraction & metamorphosis, Emily has translated architectural characteristics found in these places into her sculptural work, reflecting an ever-changing sense of place.
The exhibition is a result of an international exchange prize between GlogauAIR Berlin & La Escocesa Barcelona, granted by La Memoria Artística Chema Alvargonzalez & awarded to Emily in 2019. Due to COVID-19, the project has fulfilled its title by being In the Melting Pot for a number of years. Meanwhile, Emily has carried out further residencies at Konvent (Berga) & Homesession, to develop her research, & finally realise & present the project.

Emily Thomas (b. 1996, UK) is an emerging visual artist & woodworker based in Berlin. Since graduating from Chelsea College of Arts London (2018), she has carried out projects at notable venues including
