Esther Freixa- Medea Flyer

English (En català a continuació)

Medea (a la carta) is a performative proposal about the myth and deconstruction of Medea as a character. This work is based upon the films Medea by Pasolini and Medea by Lars Von Trier; Roberto Calasso's narrative in The Weddings of Cadmo and Harmony, and the texts Medea Material by Heiner Müller and God-Dog by Toni Cots. It is structured around 4 short pieces, each of which has its own entity and consists in a different approach to the character and its myth, which become visible through the dialogues that are taking place between myself, the spectator and the character. The evocation of Medea help us to build a new relation with her.

This proposal aims at generating a space of intimacy in which new ways of looking upon the performative take place, and to establish a relation with the public in which to expose and share different issues that question the contemporary approach of the myth. Up to now I have performed Medea (a la carta) in houses and private spaces.

Esther Freixa will present Medea (a la carta) in the Antic Teatre from september 27th to november 24th. homesession is glad to provide a complementary opportunity to see that creation in a space that challenges indeed the traditional conception of stage and the expected relation between the artist and the audience.

(EN) Medea (a la carta) springs from the dialogue Esther Freixa and Toni Cots have established around a research about creation, especially in the fields of performing arts, since July 2007. This dialogue takes the form of a creation on stage: Esther Freixa focuses on interpretation and Toni Cots brings an external look, giving a special emphasis on the general concept and the narrative articulation. After one year and half of intense work, this creation began to be shared with the audience in January 2009. The research continues however, thanks to the permanent contact with the audience, that brings new materials and leads Esther Freixa to modify and give a new scale to each piece, step by step, following her personal evolutions.

Adam Davis will present his work on Sunday August 22th

Sunday, July 18 2010

Adam Davis will present his work on Sunday August 22th @ homesession (7 PM Barcelona).

Los Angeles based artist Adam Davis explores a variety of themes that goes from body politics to metaphysics. Part of his work tackles with the notion of manifest masculinity, with accepted and expected male behavior or expressions thereof, relating cultural symbolic system and the assets it sustains. The link between masculinity-in-context and social representations has led Adam Davis to deal with the question of structural dominations in the social relations: comparing both cultural and economic domination’s schemes of internalized rejections and fantasies, the artist focuses on the way different kinds of narrations get interwoven and interact mutually.
. Would metaphysics be a better field for universality and permanence? Adam Davis’ recent works question the representations, aspirations and values given to a possible experience beyond the physical universe. With this new perspectives that certainly enlighten the most melancholic features of his works, Adam Davis goes on working and language and its structures as well as the most ethereal aspects of our fantasies.

Adam Davis, 12th resident at homesession, will present the guidelines of his works as well as the recent developments he’s been working on at Makan Project Residency (Amman, Jordan) and homesession.

Paradís perdut, Can Felipa, 28/04-19/06

Thursday, April 22 2010

Paradís perdut -lost paradise- is a collective show, curated by Ignacio Somovilla for the Can Felipa Center, that presents different ways to approach the idea of garden, with different languages, in different contexts, with different results. The exhibition doesn't pretend somehow to offer more than a partial, subjective and fragmented vision among the very large artistic creation that stems from the idea of garden.

Paradís perdut offers considerations on the current status of the garden, as a stage and above all as a metaphor, as a place for relations, leisure, contemplation, manipulation, revendication, heterotopy. It includes works by 11 artists: Jordee Ayuso, Silvia Burés i Miguel Urrestarazu, Pau Faus, Jerónimo Hagerman, Julie Houle, Lola Lasurt, Cecilia Martín, Sito Mújica, Mickaël Tramoy (homesession 4th resident), Rubén Verdú.

When: Opening on April 28th at 8pm. Till June 19th
Where: Can Felipa, C/Pallars 277 Barcelona

Patrick Bérubé presents Demi-Mesure at the Casino Art Center, Luxembourg 30/04 - to 05/09

Monday, April 12 2010

Jo Kox And Kevin Muhlen are the curators of forthcoming exhibition at the Casino art Center: "Ceci n'est pas un Casino !" (This is not a Casino!). This must be the most uttered sentence about the Luxembourg art center. Actually, who wouldn't be confused? The aim of the exhibition is to mislead people a bit more about the real identity of the building, introducing artworks dealing with game and gambling. Each of the artworks constitutes, as it were, an invitation to entertainment, be it through video games, playgrounds or carrousels... But one reality remains: playing impossible!

Patrick Bérubé will present its installation "demi-mesure" (half-measure) an impossible trampoline that adults may hate...

Participating artists: Pierre Ardouvin • Ro bert Barta • Patrick Bérubé • Marc Bijl • Hermine Bourgadier • Antoinette J. Citizen • Courtney Coombs • Jaco b Da hlgren • Pau l Kirps • Walter Langelaar • Annika Larsson• Ian Monk • Lau rent Perbos • Letizia Ro manini • Stéphane Thidet • Olaf Val

Where: Casino Art Center - Contemporary art forum, Luxembourg
When: 30/04 to 05/09, opening on 30/04 at 7pm

Sabrina Harri in art-action, MNCARS - Reina Sofia Museum, 14-04

The MNCARS-Reina Sofia Museum hosts the art-action's "rencontres internationales Paris-Berlin-Madrid" around new cinema and contemporary art with the screening of many film premieres, a video program, a media art exhibition, multimedia concerts, a cycle of debates and panel discussions. A selection of 150 works from Germany, France, Spain and 50 other countries, made up of internationally-known artists and filmmakers as well as young artists and filmmakers presented for the first time has been realized around 5500 submissions.

Sabrina Harri, the artist currently in residence at homesession, forms part of the selection: her work "Discussion Room 005" will be shown in the salón de acta Sabatini on april 14th at 3.30pm in a section called "Capitalismus".

In a state of claustrophobia, I jump against lightboxes with advertisements representing bodies in an urban landscape. It is an attempt to push away the representations, to broaden the space that surrounds me or to pass through.

Where: MNCARS-Reina Sofia Museum, Salon de Actos Sabatini, Santa Isabel Street , 52 - Madrid
